Significance of Diwali / Deepavali

Deepaavali significance
Firstly, on dwaadashi it is called neeru tumbuva habba (to segregate water). 

Secondly, Dhana trayodashi (Dhanteras), is the day when Sri Hari takes the avataara as Sri Dhanvantari (Sri Vaidyo Narayana Hari - Sri Hari take avataara of a physician). On this day, Sri Dhanvantari brings 'Amruta' (during the saagara manthana). 

During the third day, that is on chaturdashi, Sri Krishna kills the raakshasa Narakaasura. That's why the name Sri Naraka Chaturdashi. 

On fourth day, that is on 'amaavaasya' (new moon) day, Sri Mahalakshmi pooja is done. 

The fifth and final day is on 'paadya'. On this day, Sri Hari in his Sri Vaamana avataara keeps the third foot on Sri Bali Chakravarti head. This is the reason this day is called as 'Bali Paadyami'.

1. Yogeshwara: Somebody who can understand the mind of anything and anybody. Sri Hari is the Parama (ultimate) Prabhu (leader / father). That's why Sri Krishna is known as Yogeshwara.
